Welcome to Photography
Mr.
Jackson
Thank you
for choosing to take part in our photography elective! We have a full class of
students, and this trimester promises to be pretty exciting. I have worked as a
professional photographer for three years, and am looking forward to sharing my
experience with our students.
We will
start out the trimester learning the “basics” of photography, including camera
anatomy, film exposure, and basic photographic techniques. We will soon be
developing our film in the black and white darkroom, and students will learn to
print their best work. As the trimester progresses, students will learn some
advanced photographic composition techniques, while continuously improving
their darkroom skills. The $15 lab fee is going toward the purchase of film and
darkroom chemicals.
It is not
necessary for students to own their own cameras for this class. I have several
cameras and lenses that can be available for class assignments. With a class of
30 students, though, the few cameras we have will not go very far. If a 35mm
SLR (Single Lens Reflex) camera is available for your student’s assignments, it
would help considerably. I realize it is often difficult to transport a camera
back and forth from home; I keep our school cameras locked in a cabinet in a
locked classroom, and I will gladly keep your student’s camera here. However,
as with our own cameras, I cannot guarantee the camera’s
safety, and the school cannot be held responsible for lost or stolen property.
Feel free
to call me if you have any questions or concerns; I am generally available to
return calls before and after school. Thank you! I look forward to a wonderful
trimester.
Sincerely,
Michael
Jackson
