SERVICE LEARNING
Goal:
Participate
in service to one’s community through the self-selection of a project that can
utilize one’s interests and strengths.
The
Process:
·
Read
and return the Parent and Student letter only (p. 1) that explains the purpose
of service learning. (5 pts) Keep all
other paperwork.
·
As
a class we will discuss the requirements.
·
Read
through the list Mrs. Knutson/Mr. Ensey has provided of local organizations
that would welcome your service. Check
out the websites and talk to your family and friends about potential service
possibilities. (Note: your options are not limited to this list. Local churches, scouts, and our own PLMS
Honor Society are also options).
·
Select
several that you are interested in and begin to make contacts.
·
Turn in your Service Learning Proposal on or before December
4, 2007 (10 pts) pg 2
·
Begin
your service work. Be sure to note the
dates and hours worked so that it will be easy to know when your hours have
been completed.
·
Take at
least three photos of you with your service recipients. (These will be used during your
presentation). Drawn pictures don’t count
·
When
you have finished the required hours, be sure to have the
supervisor sign off on the enclosed check sheet (you
fill in the dates, etc.) for verification. These sheets will be mounted ON
THE BACK of your poster (10 pts)
Reflection:
Complete
and type the Reflection Questions located below. Type up a reflection from each
place you volunteered. Those reflections
and photos will be mounted on your poster. (25 pts)

1. What
motivated you to select this particular place to volunteer?
2. Explain
what you did there.
3. How do
you think this benefited the community?
4. What
impact did this experience have on you?
Presentation:
Share
your experience! (Limited to 5 minutes)
Create an attractive poster to be displayed as
inspiration to others. (50 pts)
