Option A:
Accelerated Reader
·
Read
books that fall within your AR reading levels
·
Read
at least 45 points worth of books
·
Write
at least TWO Book Reviews following
the outline posted on the website.
·
Pass
the AR tests at the end of the book
·
Your
class novel, Lost in the Labyrinth, counts toward your points
Option B: Counting
Pages
·
Read
a minimum of 800 pages
·
Find
books that interest you and that are suitable for your reading level. You may use the AR scale to help you. A
well-chosen book will be challenging for you to read, regardless of its
length. I can help you with the
selection process.
·
Write
at least THREE Book Reviews
following the outline in the posted on the website.
·
Your
class novel, Lost in the Labyrinth, counts toward your pages, BUT DOES NOT
count toward your book reviews (In other words, you will need to read at least FOUR
books)
**A template for
the Book Reviews will be available for you to use. You will find it on my
website.
AS
you know, you are required to read for at least 20 minutes every night, at
least six nights a week.
For option B: You are not
required to finish every book you start.
Often times, we find out that we aren’t interested in a book only after
we have read a few chapters. However,
you are required to give a book a
chance. Read at least the first 25 pages
before you opt for another book. You
will not receive credit for reading fewer than 25 pages of a book. **If this
becomes a habit, let’s talk so together, we can find books you enjoy.
You are required
to bring a novel or non-fiction book to class everyday.
Once
you reach the minimum page requirement for a trimester, you will continue
reading, but you are not required to complete additional book reviews.
Notes (fine print):
¨
You
must complete all components of the reading requirement at least one week prior to the end of the trimester.
¨
If
you choose Option B, magazine articles, newspaper articles, poems or short
stories do qualify, but you need to show me what you are reading. In other
words, if you are reading Teen People every week, we have a problem. Comics
don’t count.
