Deception Point
By Dan Brown
Review by Lauren

The
opening paragraph grabs the reader’s attention.
·Put reader
right into the action
·Make reader
imagine the unimaginable (ie. It’s not everyday that a 13 year old girl is
accused of murder…)
·Don’t start
with “the book I read was…” That’s way too BORING! Hook us into the plot!
Something
is waiting out in the ice of the Artic, will it lead to rejoice or disaster in America? When the truth is revealed
everyone will be astounded. Including the reader. John Henry (the President
of the United States)
struggles to hold his position in Dan Brown’s Deception Point.
The
title and author are worked in naturally
·Don’t say, “My
book was The Giver” when you can say, “Jonas,
a twelve year old boy and the main character of Lois Lowry’s
Newbery Award winning novel The Giver, must make decisions that impact his
entire society.”
The
overall idea and plot are discussed, without giving away the ending
·Keep it short
and sweet, even if it’s a long book
·Just give the
reader the gist of the book. Be clear, make sense, don’t give away the ending
In Deception
Point NASA is struggling to stay alive during the election for the
president, they need something to boost their virtue. When NASA finds something
in the ice they rejoice. In the election Senator Sexton is battling the president for the
position of president. With Sexton against NASA, if he becomes president NASA
will diminish, opening space to all the private space companies, destroying it
as we know it. Rachel
Sexton, the senator’s daughter,
doesn’t like her father very much. Working for the president, could she save
NASA and space, as we know it?
Describe
one exciting incident in detail
·Again, don’t
give away the ending
·Be clear
enough so that someone who HAS NOT read the book can follow
One super
exciting thing that happened in the book was when Rachel
and a few other scientists went out on the ice to take underground pictures of
the meteorite 500 yards away from the tent, three men tried to kill them! The
men had guns that shot ice pellets and were very deadly. When they printed and
saw the picture they knew why, but that is for you to read and find out why.
End
the review with your opinion and recommendation
·Who might like
this type of book? (Sports fans? People that love to laugh? History buffs? Late
night readers that like to be freaked out?
·What did you
think? Is it worth reading? If it won an award, is it worth the hype?
I think
people who would like this book, would be people that like all of the other Dan Brown
books, but if you haven’t read those then I would say people that love stories
about political problems and adventure stories. This book does contain some
stuff that might be a little to intense for some people though.
I think
this is one of the best books I have ever read I think you would too. This is a
book definitely worth reading.
