Students are asked to select quality
music for either solo or ensemble. The school music director
and/or their private music teacher will be able to help guide a student
to the appropriate choice of music and preparation necessary.
Students will perform for the
adjudicators and be rated on the quality of the music and their
performance during 10-minute time slots throughout the day. There are
no limitations on the number of entries students can participate in,
however, a maximum of 4 entries per student is recommended. This
can include any combination of solos, duets, trios, quartets and mixed
ensembles.
A rating of their performance will be
assigned on a scale of 1-3 with a 1 being the best rating for fewest
mistakes and highest musical quality. (1=Superior=Gold,
2=Excellent=Silver, and 3=Good=Bronze.) Students are adjudicated only
within their peer group for a particular grade level; grades 6, 7, and
8. This is non-competitive. The students are judged against a criteria
and are not graded against each other or between grade levels so it is
possible for all students to receive a 1 rating (considered a superior
performance).
By the end of the day Music Achievement
Certificates and written adjudication forms will given to the school
music directors.
This Festival provides a positive format
for every student to receive feedback and have an opportunity to hear
other students from other schools throughout the day. Unless otherwise
instructed by your school music director, students are not required to
stay beyond of their assigned preparation and performance times.
This festival is open to 6th, 7th
and 8th grade music students (must be currently enrolled in
the music program) from league member schools.
